Join the Group

The Brgoch group trains graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduates in every step of materials discovery: computation and machine learning, synthesis, crystallography, and spectroscopy.

Open Positions

  • Undergraduate researchers, permanent magnets

Undergraduates are joining GAMBIT, an ARPA-E-funded project on the AI-driven discovery of new permanent magnetic materials. The work combines high-temperature synthesis, X-ray diffraction, and magnetic measurements with the machine-learning models that guide the search. University of Houston students in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, and related majors should email Dr. Brgoch with their major, year, and weekly availability.

How to Apply

Graduate students

Admission is through the Ph.D. program in the Department of Chemistry. Prospective students are encouraged to email Dr. Brgoch before or after applying to discuss research in the group.

UH Chemistry graduate program

Postdoctoral researchers

Email Dr. Brgoch a CV with a list of publications, a short statement describing your research experience and how it connects to the group, and the names of three references.

Undergraduate researchers

University of Houston undergraduates in chemistry, chemical engineering, and related majors are welcome. Email Dr. Brgoch with your major, year, relevant coursework, and the hours you are available each week.

Training

Every member of the group learns to carry a material from prediction to measurement.

  • High-temperature solid-state synthesis
  • Powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction
  • Optical and luminescence spectroscopy
  • Magnetic and mechanical measurements
  • Density functional theory calculations
  • Machine learning and materials data science
